Referencing strategies in multisemiotic texts

Abstract

Our goal in this paper is to demonstrate, by analyzing cartoons and charges posted on both social networks Facebook and WhatsApp, that the interlocutors elaborate negotiated representations of the referents based on contextual clues that allow them to rebuild referential introductions or anaphora (resumption). Such indications are expressed or portray identities in verbal-imagery texts, or just evocative elements that are part of these texts. Similary to what is done by the referring expressions, images can explain the referents or just evoke them. We tried to demonstrate how some of the imagetic traits that evoke referents are explicable by the Grammar of Visual Design by Kress and van Leeuwen, and that the same traits can favor socio-cognitive processes of introduction, anaphora and deixis.

  • Mônica Magalhães Cavalcante

    Mônica Magalhães Cavalcante é graduada em Letras pela Universidade Estadual do Ceará (1985); tem mestrado em Linguística pela Universidade Federal do Ceará (1996) e doutorado em Linguística pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (2000). Em 2003, fez pós-doutorado em Linguística pela Unicamp. Desde 1989, é professora da Universidade Federal do Ceará e, atualmente, é bolsista CNPq de Produtividade em Pesquisa nível PQ-1. Tem experiência na área de linguística textual, com ênfase em referenciação, intertextualidade, metadiscursividade, argumentação, heterogeneidades enunciativas, gêneros do discurso, articulação tópica e sequências textuais.

    Mariza Angelica Paiva Brito é professora do Mestrado em Estudos da Linguagem e do Mestrado Interdisciplinar em Humanidades (Unilab); Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa da FUNCAP (BPI); Professora Adjunto da Universidade da Integração Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-brasileira (UNILAB); Pós-Doutora em Linguística de Texto, Mestre e Doutora em Linguística pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Linguística da UFC. Líder do GELT - Grupo de Pesquisa em Linguística Textual (CNPq / UNILAB) e Vice-líder do PROTEXTO - Grupo de Pesquisa em Linguística (CNPq / UFC). Membro do GT Linguística do Texto e Análise da Conversação, da Associação Nacional de Pesquisa em Letras e Linguística (ANPOLL); Graduada em Psicologia pela Universidade Federal do Ceará; Desenvolve pesquisas na área de Linguística Textual, Psicanálise, heterogeneidade enunciativa e argumentação.
