Starting over, starting over like songs and epidemics: Fighting Cocks, 1976
Abstract
Aldir Blanc (1946-2020) was one of the great lyricists of the generation that emerged throughout the 1970s. His collaborations with João Bosco, Maurício Tapajós, Sueli Costa, Moacyr Luz, and Guinga, among others, are examples of creativity, versatility, and a profound look at the country's pertinent issues, with a combative stance. This article aims to focus on the album "Galos de briga" (RCA Victor, 1976), the result of the partnership between João Bosco and Aldir Blanc, on the following thematic axes: 1) combative stance; 2) chronicles of everyday life; 3) who controls the body. To this end, it will use as theoretical reference Charles Gavin (2015); Marcos Napolitano (2005); Carlos Rennó (2014); Luiz Fernando Vianna (2013); Ana Maria Bahiana (1980). With these authors, it intends to: comment on issues related to the particularities of Brazilian popular song from the analysis of the songs on the album; refer to a research methodology; touch on historiographical questions regarding the trajectories of João Bosco and Aldir Blanc, highlighting the point at which they crossed paths to form one of the most fruitful partnerships in our songbook.
