Social media as a tool for learning the Portuguese language in deaf education: new strategies through the use of Facebook and WhatsApp

Currently the use of social media has proved to be an excellent teaching-learning tool in the school context. Therefore, the present study presents some results of a master's research conducted during the year 2015, in which it was investigated how the use of social networks stimulates and potentiates the acquisition of written Portuguese as a second Language for the deaf through the use of Facebook and WhatsApp. In order to understand which strategies favor learning in the Portuguese language, the research was based on the studies carried out by Quadros, Karnopp, Silva, Favorito, among other researchers and analyzed the theoretical presuppositions of Bilingual Education, underlying Law 10.436 and decree n ° 5626 For data collection, there was participant observation during the resource room appointments, field notes and transcription of the virtual dialogues of Facebook and WhatsApp. The analysis of the data was conducted by the theoretical contribution of ethnography and netnography combined with action research. The study participants were: four deaf (non-oralized) children, who use Libras as the first language (L1), enrolled in a Baixada Fluminense Municipal School / RJ, aged between 15 and 18 years. The results indicated that interactions using Portuguese written through social media as a tool used by bilingual professionals, in the context of deafness, favors the learning of second language by the deaf.
