Much has been discussed about the methodologies and practices of Portuguese language teaching for deaf students, mainly from the legal documents (Law 10.436 / 2002, Decree 5.626 / 2005) that establish bilingual teaching practices, in which LIBRAS is the first language and the Portuguese Language, the second language of the deaf subject. However, when we analyze from a historical bias the process of education of the deaf, we understand that many of these practices have not undergone the transformations that the law guarantees. This paper aims to analyze the pathways and trajectories of the education of deaf students, as well as to raise awareness of the deafness of the deaf students. quantitative and qualitative data on methodologies in the teaching of Portuguese as a second language for the deaf, through publications in the Digital Library of theses and dissertations, in the interval of sixteen years (2002 to 2016). This is a qualitative and quantitative research carried out by the survey of the academic production in the theses and dissertations database of the Brazilian digital library. The results reveal the scarcity of academic productions and methodologies of teaching Portuguese as L2 for the deaf.
