Abstract

This article draws on the study of the chronicle, especially with regard to
its role in the reorganization of the city and to that genre as a form of urban experience. Based on theorists such as Julio Ramos and Michel de Certeau, the proposal is to think the chronicles most linked to experience the metropolis, and realize its production of meaning and participation in the redevelopment of the modern city. By moving away from a historical perspective of the genre, this study also seeks to establish relationships
with some important points that help to think the most chronicle linked to journalistic and cinematic activities, in other words, chronicle-reports and cinematography of
words. In this sense, this article has as its object of analysis the Cinematographo
column, weekly published from August 11, 1907 through December 19th, 1910 on Gazeta de Notícias, and on the homonymous book (1909), both productions of João do
Rio (Paulo Barreto). It arises from the observation of texts selected, a reflection on the chronicles of the early twentieth century and, as a result, the debate about the dilution of borders between literature, journalism and film.
