Study and research in poem analysis: non-formal education and academic literacy
Abstract
Reading poetry can be challenging because it uses language beyond its everyday function as a vehicle for information. Similarly, academic literacy, that is, mastering the codes of reading and producing texts specific to the university environment, can also challenge the beginner in the academic field. In this sense, the Study and Research Group on Poem Analysis (Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisas em Análise de Poemas-GEPAP) was created at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ). This interdisciplinary and interinstitutional group is structured outside the traditional education system (non-formal education). The group utilizes the advantages of information and communication technologies (ICT) to meet weekly in sessions lasting approximately two hours, during which theories of poetry and poem analysis are discussed. The objective of this work is to describe the activities of GEPAP, both theoretically (epistemology of poetry) and practically (reading, production, analysis, and interpretation of poems).
