Fascism and barbarism: the artistic manifestations under attacks in Bolsonaro’s Brazil.
Abstract
Assuming that fascism is an ideology and that there is no way to destroy an idea in the phenomenal world, this article aims to analyze some Brazilian factual events related to the rise of bolsonarismo, exposing, through speeches, acts and practices engendered by Jair Bolsonaro and his supporters that, exalting an exacerbated patriotism,
an anti-left policy as a combat tactic, an arms and fundamentalist agenda, mobilized and mobilize an emotional and uncritical mass that, when instrumentalized, presents itself as an entourage of a political religion, making explicit a cult of the Head of State as a divine entity, a cult of violent man and violence, and a cult of ignorance, manifested, for
example, by contempt for modern cultural and artistic manifestations and violent
repudiation against artists and intellectuals. These traits, under this analytical-critical perspective, can be understood as a manifestations of fascism.
